A really good excuse to go shopping

I posted a picture on my IG yesterday of a few companies I had found that were giving proceeds to Oklahoma tornado relief and I was asked to repost it here on my blog. Since then I’ve discovered a few more companies that are giving proceeds to Oklahoma!

Guys. thank you. My poor little state has taken quite the beating but the outpouring of love and support has been amazing. Many of the companies below are local businesses but a few of them are out of state and I can’t thank them enough for donating to Oklahoma. We truly appreciate everything that everyone is doing to help us!

I don’t think I mentioned this in my post yesterday, but I had a few people asking: I’m fine. I wasn’t near the tornadoes, nor were any of my family. We are all safe and sound, thank you Jesus! Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement and your concern for little ole me!ok tornado relief1. Shop Good is donating proceeds from their Moore tee  to the American Red Cross. Thoughts on Moore

pray for OK

Tornadoes are not a new thing here in Oklahoma. You get used to hearing the tornado sirens going off every Saturday afternoon, declaring the time to be twelve noon exactly, but also declaring that the sirens worked, that if they were needed the sirens were ready. You know the weathermen by name, you recognize the team when they’re out checking the skies for signs. If you’ve been here long enough, you can even start to predict them yourself. When the air gets still and quiet and the sky look like someone spilled ink across the clouds.

But you never get used to the after effects. The devastation and utter chaos caused from these powerful storms are just unexplainable. My heart is breaking today for those families who lost loved ones in this week’s tragedy. I am just sick thinking of those little ones who were lifted from the rubble by volunteers. I can’t imagine the things that these firemen, police officers, and others are witnessing, the things that they are having to force themselves to do to clean up the destruction left from this tornado.

One of the things that I absolutely adore about living in Oklahoma is our tight sense of community. I’ve mentioned it before, Oklahomans are family and we stick together. There has been an outpouring of donations, monetary or otherwise, but there has also been an even bigger outpouring of prayers. I’m proud to be a part of a state that gives so much to those in need.

Just Say No!

Vintage Romper on A Rambling Fancy

I’m not gifted in the art of saying “no”. I very rarely have the brains to say no. If I’m honest with myself it boils down to the fact that I carry around this monster in my heart called Pride and I don’t want anyone to think I’m not capable of doing something.

A Rambling Fancy

I feel that if I say no that someone will use excuses like I’m too young or too inexperienced or too immature or I don’t have the skills or (my favorite) that I can’t do it because I’m a girl (no one gets to pull the girl card on me except for me, dang it!) Or the even better ones, I’m selfish or mean or I’m stuck up and therefore I WON’T help anyone out but myself. So I say yes, yes, YES! and then my list of To Do’s is out the window and I have days like yesterday when I went to the bathroom and had myself a good little cry because I felt so entirely suffocatingly overwhelmed.

Needless to say, I’ve decided I need to work on saying “no”. And maybe deal with my pride as well, i don’t know. And possibly my people pleasing addiction. And my inability to convey my frustrations without crying. And my addiction to Dr. Pepper. Oh wait no, scratch that one, I’m ok with that one.

Mothers Day & the WSW favorite linker!

Mother’s Day was split this year between two very special mamma’s. Jared and I took a trip to his hometown and spent the morning with his sweet mom Sonja and his family. Then we spent the evening with my family and my sweet mom Sonya. No this is not a joke, they have the same name. Not a single picture was taken with Jared’s family, at least not on my camera. I”m so embarrassed. Next time people, next time.

I’m so thankful for the wonderful mommas that I have in my life. I’m surrounded by strong, Christian women who are living examples of dreaming big and trusting in God. If I turn out to be 1/10th of the mommas these ladies are, I think I’ll be doing pretty dang good.

IMG_0520in addition to all the many talents my sweet boyfriend posses,he is also quite the little chef. Lucky for me since cookery makes me want to lay down on the floor. Chloe had to make unleavened bread for a class project and Jared jumped right in and showed her how. Cuteness overload.

And now for my favorite What She Wears linker!

I loved Kelly’s darling red and turquoise combo, and those shoes are totally to die for. I’m thinking I need to run over to Old Navy and snatch up that dress!

Confessional

I don’t have anything scheduled for today so I’m just going to let out a few thoughts that I’ve been having lately, alright? alright.

IMG_0166This week has been a little bit of a ick one. Back in August I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (yes at 24. so ridiculous) and a few days ago I had what I like to call “a spell”. I don’t have very many spells (we’ll get to that reason in a bit) but when I do they suck the life right out of me and make me feel like the most pathetic person on the planet. Occasionally the spell is in my hands or my knees but this time it was deep in my hips and lower back and lasted for days.

The pain is an ache that steals your sleep and your peace of mind and you start to wonder if it’ll always feel like this. Until one day you wake up and the pain is gone, you can move freely. And you start to think how silly and pathetic you were acting. Until it happens again.

IMG_0171

When a doctor tells you that at 24 you have arthritis, it’s pretty unbelievable. When he tells you that the medicine he’s about to put you on can cause major emotional malfunctions and infertility, it’s infuriating. I’m still not entirely convinced that I have RA, due to the fact that since August I’ve had less than 10 spells and none of them have been as bad as that very first spell that sent me to the doctor with hands so swollen I couldn’t get a ring off my finger. But not even that first spell, when I felt like I had to bend almost completely in half just to be able to walk up the stairs, is worth the side effects from that medication. Medicine should not have that many negative side effects, it contradicts the definition of medicine.

IMG_0180So I’m not taking any. I’m researching natural methods, like eating more fish which is high in omega-3 fatty acids (which sounds disgusting but apparently it’s good for fighting RA) and doing more yoga. I’m experimenting, finding what works for me so that I don’t have to feel that helpless, depressing pain ever again. So that I don’t have to be scared of what is going to happen to my mind in order to “take care” of my body. And most importantly, so that I won’t have doctors telling me that I need to stop wearing cute shoes and start wearing Dr. Scholls.   Just kidding. kind of.

This past week I had a spell. I had dropped the ball on my yoga, stopped being as conscious of the food I ate, and apparently it back fired on me. It was a painful wake up call, but it did it’s job. Instead of forcing me to run screaming to a doctor who would give me ovary destroying medication, it caused me to remember why exactly I was working towards becoming healthier in my eating habits and my lifestyle.

IMG_0182

I was given a painful diagnosis(granted, it could have been much worse, I know) and a stupid remedy to that diagnosis. But I’m not accepting either one. Words are powerful, but only if you allow them to be. If you allow negative words to fester in your heart, to take root and burrow into your soul, then you will accept anything anyone says about you, not just silly diagnosis’, but what people say about your character, about your abilities, about your worth.

But the same works for positive words as well. If you refuse to accept what people say about you, if your worth comes from something more than just the words of those around you, then you know that you are capable of anything.

I know that doctors are put in place for a reason, i know that they save lives and do wondrous things. Maybe this doctor is right, maybe I do have RA. But if I can live the rest of my life in a healthier way and NOT have to take stupid ridiculous drugs? I do believe that’s a win/win for everyone.

WHEW you weren’t expecting THIS today were you?! They don’t call me The Rambler for nothin ;)
