Just Say No!

Vintage Romper on A Rambling Fancy

I’m not gifted in the art of saying “no”. I very rarely have the brains to say no. If I’m honest with myself it boils down to the fact that I carry around this monster in my heart called Pride and I don’t want anyone to think I’m not capable of doing something.

A Rambling Fancy

I feel that if I say no that someone will use excuses like I’m too young or too inexperienced or too immature or I don’t have the skills or (my favorite) that I can’t do it because I’m a girl (no one gets to pull the girl card on me except for me, dang it!) Or the even better ones, I’m selfish or mean or I’m stuck up and therefore I WON’T help anyone out but myself. So I say yes, yes, YES! and then my list of To Do’s is out the window and I have days like yesterday when I went to the bathroom and had myself a good little cry because I felt so entirely suffocatingly overwhelmed.

Needless to say, I’ve decided I need to work on saying “no”. And maybe deal with my pride as well, i don’t know. And possibly my people pleasing addiction. And my inability to convey my frustrations without crying. And my addiction to Dr. Pepper. Oh wait no, scratch that one, I’m ok with that one.

If Clothes Could Talk

vintage fashion on A Rambling FancyMy sweet friend Lori bought a house a while back that just happened to come with absolutely everything the previous owner had possessed while living. An older woman who had passed away from age, the remaining family just took the things that they wanted and left everything else for Lori to figure out. Kind of weird and somewhat rude, but it happened to work out in our favor; Lori found a closet-full of vintage clothes in one of the rooms!

She’s just about the most fantastic person ever because she let me come over and pick out whatever I wanted! This little romper (yes it’s a romper!) was one of my finds. I’ve spoken before about my love for vintage and these latest pieces are no exception. I absolutely adore the fact that there is a story in these seams and while I will never know it myself, I can imagine it all I want.
I’d like to think that this darling little romper was for something special, because hi hello look how cute it is. I hope I do it justice!

Current Obsessions

IMG_9923This outfit is basically comprised of all my current fashion obsessions. So let’s break it down:

- headbands. they’re the perfect day 6 greasy hair concealer and it’s an easy way to add another pattern to your outfit. which i am always for.

- chambray. duh. this is one of those trends that I don’t give a rip and a half if it goes out of style, i will continue to wear it. chambray is just so easy to style.

- maxi skirts. this skirt has been my best spring purchase so far. I’ve worn it more times that I have shown on this blog but here’s two other ways to style it 1 and 2

- jesus sandals. i love these strappy sandals and hi hello they’re leopard? perfect. I will be continuously wearing them this summer

Oklahoma Fashion Week

I had the privilege of attending the Saturday evening finale show of Oklahoma Fashion Week this weekend. I’m utterly thrilled to see events like this happening and I’ve even more thrilled to see these events partnering with other companies to make a difference here in Oklahoma. A portion of proceeds from OFW benefited theĀ  the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to help fight child hunger.

Good morning friends!

These are our top 4 Spring Must Haves! Check out mine below and then head over to SLC to read all about Courts!

Happy Friday!

Sisterly- Spring Must Haves

::The Rambler’s Spring Must Haves::

1. Blush/Bronzer Duo:: When the weather gets warmer my makeup routine gets lazier and lazier. I just love a simple fresh look! This blush/bronzer is the perfect mix of shimmer and color. A little mascara, a little blush/bronzer, and a little bit of gloss and you’re good to go!

2. Muscle Tees:: Oh my word I am OBSESSED with this trend! Muscle tees are so laid back and comfy and right now there are so many options you can basically have any graphic you want. Romantic, rocker, hipster, whatever floats your boat.

Now check out SCL’s Spring Must Haves, Lickety Split!

Gold Seam Vintage

Good morning lovers!

The other day Kayla O’Rourke styled a dress from Gold Seam Vintage on her blog and I utterly fell in love. If you haven’t checked out Kayla you definitely need to! She’s so adorable and her style is so eclectic and brave, I love it.

You should ALSO check out Gold Seam Vintage, a vintage shop in Reno, NV. I’m pretty sure Megan thinks I’m crazy now but I just fell in love with this dress and her shop! Too bad I decided to start making a budget and actually sticking to it this month. GSV is definitely making me rethink that ridiculous decision!

Random Facts: My Dr. Pepper Addiction is Genetic

If you know me, you know that I have a true and deep love for Dr. Pepper. I’m not one of those people who carry around a 4 liter or anything, and I don’t drink it every day, but whenever I have a craving it’s most likely going to be for Dr. Pepper. There’s nothing better than a can (no bottles ick) of cold DP poured over extra ice, crushed if possible, with a straw.

polka dot dressI’d say it was my mom who introduced me to my love for Dr. Pepper. We always joke around and say my mom gave us the addiction while in the womb, since she drank Dr. Pepper like it was goin out of style. She almost always has a Dr. Pepper in the house, and my dad knows to go get a fresh one if he’s been in the dog house lately. When my sister comes into town and we go shopping together, we eventually all need to take a break and get a DP to recuperate.

shoe dazzle wedgesBut our addiction goes back farther than just my mom, in fact it goes back to my great grandpa. Papa Rakes used to hide bottles of Dr. Pepper in his work shed out in Virginia. He’d pull those hot, flat bottles from the saw dust in his shed and drink them like they were the best thing he’d ever tasted. Of course he had to hide them in the sawdust, when you have 7 kids and 22 grand kids, drinks like Dr. Pepper don’t stay around for very long. The RamblerI think my great grandpa would be proud to know we carry on his DP addiction. Whenever I have kids, I’ll make sure and sit them down and tell them all the family Dr. Pepper stories. I’m sure I’ll be adding my own to the family hall of fame.
